We bought a house! If you remember from this post and this one, we spent 2013 looking for a home and the process was pretty stressful at times. After a lot of searching (and tons of praying) we found a home and it’s wonderful. Let me tell you all about it:
Our house was built in the 40s and was previously owned by an elderly couple so it hasn’t been updated in a while. What it lacks in upgrades it makes up for in character. We love the layout of the house. The fireplace is gorgeous and the crown molding is beautiful.
The house is 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths but we use the 3rd bedroom as a family room since it’s rather large for a bedroom. We had the hardwood floors refinished before we moved in but we didn’t do anything else cosmetic. The kitchen needs a ton of work so I’ve been perusing Pinterest since escrow closed compiling tons of ideas for the time when we’re ready to take the plunge and remodel.
My favorite part of the house is probably the backyard. It’s a great size and Baby Bear loves it! It has a huge persimmon tree that has been so full of fruit this winter the branches can barely sustain the weight. We also have a Meyer lemon tree and a beautiful Japanese maple tree in the yard. The previous owner cultivated orchids so there is a garden shed in the back next to some sort of watering system attached to a trellis. The yard is full of amazing plants (many of which I still haven’t identified) so it’s exciting to see new things sprout up. Baby Bear and I have picked out a spot among the abundant mint plants and planted a small herb garden.
I love watching Baby Bear play in the yard. She adores running through the water when I water the plants. She loves collecting rocks and has recently gotten into the habit of kicking leaves from any piles I rake.
I have to be honest – owning a home can be overwhelming at times. We have a lot of work to do to really make this house our home but we’re excited. We love the neighborhood and adore our new home.
